Lighting

High efficiency light fixtures installed in the building reduced the installed lighting load from a typical value of 20 W/m 2 to approximately 11 W/m 2 , with an average illumination level of 350 lux as per the guidelines set in MS 1525.

The monitored electricity consumption for lighting composed of lighting in the office rooms, lighting in the non-office areas including canteen, plant rooms, kindergarten and low-voltage room, lighting in the core area, as well as lighting in the car park area. The yearly lighting demand was 456 MWh, constituting 21% of the total building energy consumption. The average lighting demand in the office area was 728 kWh/day.

Energy Consumption for Lighting in 2005

Breakdown of the electricity demand for lighting shows that 58% of the lighting demand is for office area, 24% for core area, 9% for non-office area like canteen, plant rooms and kindergarten. The lighting in the car park area is 9% of the total lighting demand. The lighting in the core area is relatively high even though the area is relatively small and this is because the lighting system is not optimal in these areas.
